Follow-up Comment #8, bug #59899 (project octave): I addressed comment #3 in this changeset (http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/c75996cbe3ba). Octave now distinguishes invalid data types (like a cell array {1}:5) and incompatible data types (int8(1):int32(5)).
