Follow-up Comment #1, bug #58388 (project octave):
This bug appears to be a typo which is fixed with the added patch.
@OP What demodulation were you using?

To test a random made .wav file, makes more progress.
However, David Bateman documented this could not work for FM
warning ("ademodce: FM demodulation broken!!")
The function looks to be Octave only
