Follow-up Comment #6, bug #60413 (project octave):
IIRC, I added the pattern replacements to fix issues with the mkoctfile flags
when cross compiling for Windows. If this is the only use case where having
those pattern replacements makes sense, maybe we could use them only in that
case.
