Follow-up Comment #2, bug #60839 (project octave):
It looks like the help has changed.
With current stable (GNU Octave Version: 6.2.93 (hg id: 340d6d3dcc94) I see:
octave:1> help mldivide
'mldivide' is a built-in function from the file libinterp/corefcn/data.cc
-- mldivide (X, Y)
Return the matrix left division of X and Y.
This function and X \ Y are equivalent.
