Yeah when I saw the fix in comment #7 I assumed that one-line change might do
the trick. And indeed - it does. Thanks!

I had to restart Octave after applying the fix to edit.m, 'clear -f' didn't
work.

As to 'file_in_path', after the second fix (comment #8) the first fix
shouldn't be absolutely needed, isn't it? If you want I can try just the
second fix to see if that fix by itself would also help out. Easily done.
