Follow-up Comment #2, bug #62365 (project octave):

Installed with Homebrew

Non-gun was a typo - running it in non-gui mode.  Just ascii in the terminal
window

Strangely, after a keyboard command a the script, up-arrow will allow one to
access the command history typed since the keyboard command.
