Follow-up Comment #1:

Thanks for the report. This is a confirmed bug in Octave, see bug #62271. The
bug should be fixed in the stable but if you are not compiling octave by
yourself, this fix won't come into effect until the release of version 7.2.0.

Until then For now, **please disable the preference "Remove trailing spaces
when saving file" in the editor tab of the preferences dialog**.
