See also bug#60279, which has the status fixed.

in the following sequence:

* launch GUI
* reset default window layout
* undock documentation window
* undock editor window
* untick "show editor" (undocked editor window closes)
* untick "show documentation" (undocked documentation window closes)
* quit gui
* relaunch gui

Now empty undocked editor and documentation windows are visible.

This is on WSL-g
