Follow-up Comment #4, bug #63080 (project octave):
Maybe something to consider with respect to that FIXME note:
Sparse matrices might be very large but sparsely populated (in your example
not populated at all). If those operations would return a matrix of the same
size as the input that is completely populated with Inf, it could take a lot
of memory.
