Follow-up Comment #2, bug #41942 (project octave):

this appears to still be the case in Octave 7.2.1 (hg id: 24247d13a44b)

octave> pkg install -forge image audio
For information about changes from previous versions of the image package, run
'news image'.


i believe the `pkg update` does show each news prompt though, as the current
implementation calls pkg install independently for each package to be updated.
