Follow-up Comment #15, bug #63281 (project octave):

Since Matlab doesn't have diagonal (or permutation) matrices and in the places
where Octave can create them Matlab would create full matrices instead, then I
think the best thing to do would be to make all operations with them behave as
if they are full.

Also, given our limited developer resources, I wouldn't object to deprecating
and removing them from Octave.
