Follow-up Comment #27, bug #63265 (project octave):

AFAICT microsoft could as well be using _remove_ instead. 

And I'm a real noob, but given my dumb test with matlab's _delete_ FWIW I
suspect they might be unsetting/resetting the files attributes in any case
without extra checks (not that I can think to many/some situation where this
would matter, but nonetheless).
