Follow-up Comment #10, bug #63931 (project octave):

I can also reproduce this with 

clang version 15.0.7 (Red Hat 15.0.7-2.el9) (-Os and, presumably, lower). -O2
works fine.

gcc version 12.2.1 20221121 (Red Hat 12.2.1-7) (-Os and, presumably, lower).
-O2 works fine.

cli always works fine. Bizarre.
