Follow-up Comment #7, bug #64836 (project octave):

I admit I haven't tried to understand the reported problem here.  I'm just
responding to the comment:

"I always figured mxe-octave were some sort of closed build system,
independent of, if not immune to, how the host system is configured."

That was more or less the original intent.  Except for a relatively small set
of basic utilities required for bootstrapping, the idea was to build specified
versions of everything else so that the builds would be reproducible.
