Follow-up Comment #65, bug #31080 (group octave):

I can't reproduce the issue reliably. But sometimes it occurs for me, too,
with the following steps:

* Re-arrange the widgets such that the built-in editor and the command window
widget are visible at the same time. (I was never able to reproduce the issue
when the command window widget wasn't visible when I saved the file. That
might not mean much because I can't reproduce the issue reliably in any
case...)
* Create a new file in the built-in editor and save it (e.g., as "test5.m")
* Click into the command window widget and run the new file (e.g., with typing
"test5" and hitting the "return" key).

Sometimes that executes the file for me. Some other times, I see the "...
undefined near line 1, column 1" error. (Maybe, with approximately a 1 out of
4 chance that I get the error.)

The attached patch rehashes Octave's load path every time immediately after a
file was saved (not only for new files).
With it, I wasn't able to reproduce the issue with the above steps (so far).
