I was guessing a timeout problem, but I'm not much of a sysadmin, so
I wouldn't know where to look for it. Emptying the cache doesn't help.
Since it only seems to be me who is experiencing difficulties, I'm happy
to drop this, though if someone with more knowledge of internet plumbing
could get the delay for accessing the wiki the first time down, that
would
be good too.

I have the same problem (with Safary and Firefox).
And not only the first time I try:
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration
and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, address@hidden and
inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might
have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the
server error log.
