+# Free Software / Free network services sharing tool
+
+##Evaluation
+
+Objectives were:
+
+Objectives met:
+
+Goals met:
+
+On schedule? (according to timeline)
+
+Further action? Or tie off / drop
+
+Lessons learned / Action to implement lesson
+
+## Proposal
+
+Goals:
+
+* Give FSF an easy way to promote social sharing of its work that will reflect
our most up-to-date take on free network services, and the politics of social
sharing sites. For example, if we have one button, we don't need to write up
new text on different sites, or look up what are most recent policy is.
+
+* Take language and spirit of <http://defectivebydesign.org/share> and make it
more useful to us, and useful to other people.
+
+* Give people an easy way to make a similar recommendation and distinction
between recommended and unrecommended services to their users.
+
+* Promote our free network services policy and get lots of other sites
effectively behind it by getting sites to use our button.
+
+* Generate more links and traffic to FSF and its projects.
+
+Objectives:
+
+* Build site and button
+* Site and button itself fits with our probably definition of free network
service, no personal data collection, code (HTML / javascript) in savannah.
+* Use site and button on fsf.org
+* Get sites using it on their pages that themselves, together have 10 times
fsf.org's traffic according to alexa & compete.
+* When network services statement comes out, quadruple traffic to that page.
+
+Timeline:
+
+After initial discussion
+
+* 2 days web design and basic javascript.
+* 1/2 day for writing, review, edits
+* Get all basic features and as many bonus features as possible.
+* 1 day. Launch, community, promotion.
+
+## Launch and marketing
+
+* Email to lists
+* blog post
+* Make list of 50 big sites we think might use this and reach out to them when
we're in the draft stage.
+* Email some big blogs (lifehacker, consumerist, boingboing) and promote it.
+* Track the number of sites using it.
+
+## Make it a free network service, free software project
+
+* Code under AGPL, hosted somewhere (savannah?)
+* Make sure we aren't collecting any user-identifying data (just sites that
use it).
+* Invite people to make it better.
+
+## Make it work
+
+* Build javascript modeled on addthis with our changes
+* Adapt wordpress plugin (GPL) to work with our service, or patch another
sharing plugin if there's a more popular one, adding us as an option.
+* Bonus: adapt drupal and joomla plugins.
+* Bonus: search functionality in larger popup.
+
+## Do design
+
+* Modelled on Addthis.com
+* Everything is in a single page, use jump links within page when possible.
+* Discuss, get approval
+
+## Discuss design mockups
+
+(emailed to campaigns, link here)
+
+## Build list of recommended Services:
+
+* Identi.ca
+* Reddit
+* Slashdot
+* Wordpress
+* Email
+* ur1.ca
+* Jabber (Gtalk)
+
+## Build list of other services:
+
+* Digg
+* Facebook
+* Twitter
+* Stumbleupon
+* Delicious
+* Orkut
+* Get some top 20 list of social networking services or traffic generators.
+
+## Pick a name
+
+This site should be on its own domain and have its own name/logo.
+
+### my favorite name so far:
+
+sharerite.org
+
+### Other names:
+
+rightshare.org (sounds like rightwing)
+addright.org
+gnushare.org (not sure we want to put the gnu name on this)
+gshare.org
+gnuthis.com/.net/.org
+gnushare.org
+
+### Misc ideas / questions
+
+* Make identical API and Adapt GPL wordpress and Joomla addthis plugins.
+* What's the best way to do wordpress sharing? Copy addthis use of WP API?
Or better to just use bookmarklet?
+* If we jump into actually saving passwords and such, we could make a jabber
service for setting a URL as a custom status message (would work with gtalk
too, which is cool).
+* Can we keep the user in an iframe and give a message that says "if you don't
use this site already, please don't sign up for it just to share our stuff
(close / don't show this again for this site)"?
