Mr Hess,
Thanks for the tip on cvs access as a way to get OpenEXR going on OS X. When
I cvs-ed OpenEXR there was no configure file. I'm not sure if I dare try
using the "released" configure file, especially since it doesn't have the
istream hack option in it. Any thoughts?

If you know how to use CVS, you can get a version of OpenEXR that works on
OS X (including exrdisplay). Basically, you want to do this from the
command line:
cvs -d:pserver:address@hidden:/cvsroot/openexr login
Hit enter when prompted for the password.
Then:
cvs -z3 -d:pserver:address@hidden:/cvsroot/openexr co OpenEXR
With that version from CVS, everything builds fine on OS X.
email me privately if you have any problems.
