Hello,

I’m at the current master/head 6daf184
(as can be seen in this post’s headers).

I still use a mix of AstraWeb (primary)
with GigaNews (backup/fallback)
in SSL mode for both
and was intensely interested in
HM’s recent updates in this area.

I tested selecting xzver for AW
and gzip for GN
in the ‘Header Compression’ option
under Edit → Edit News Servers.
The xzver+AW might be fixed,
but I _think_ we may still have a problem
with gzip+GN.

With the normal operation of
“Get New Headers in Subscribed Groups”,
somehow/someway Pan decided to
start pulling *all* headers
from many groups on GN in my
subscription list (over 500 groups).
It’s as if the history for those
certain groups had been wiped-out
but only for GN’s side
(AW seemed ok).

So, I decided to turn-off these options
e.g. go back to Disable Compression
for both servers.
Again, Pan decided to start pulling
*all* headers for GN on some groups,
as if it lost all history once again.

Kinda nasty, as many of these groups
are extremely large nowadays. ;>

A second problem in this area:
While the compression settings were active,
I could see some fetch-new-headers tasks
stay in the Task Queue
and continue to loop
all by itself --
I had to force the task to be
Deleted there, else it would
certainly still be there.
Believe it or not, again it was
the GN side, while the AW side
seemed to be ok.
;\

I always set the Connection Limit to ‘1’
for each server while testing here.
(I might bump it up to max value
since I saw the problem with GN
 start fetching all headers
 just to hurry-it-up.)

I’ve also learned to set Expire Headers
to keep about 2-weeks worth
so these bugs shouldn’t be depended-upon
any memory limits etc.
(I know how to use NZB search sites. <g>)

I will try to help if needed
(I need detailed instruction if so).

Thanks for reading.
