A nice idea, but it still isn't quite what I'm after.
I am happy for two instances of Pan to be running -- but not for two
instances of Pan to be running _under_my_UID_.
Also re xmessage, I prefer zenity. :-)
zenity --info --text="Hey! Pan's already running!"
