I believe I've seen mention of this bug previously..  Check the last
couple weeks of list posts.. and bugzilla, for possible fix status and to
add info to the report, presuming of course it's been posted there.  If
not, open a bug report on it..

The filters themselves s/b in filters.xml, of course, but filter status is
obviously tracked per group.  I can't tell you which file, altho someone
might (or U could check the source), but I'd first make a backup of the
entire dir, so as to not screw things up, since I wanted to try to save
it, then experiment with the appropriate group file in the appropriate
server subdir, and the appropriate server_sub.idx and _sub.dat files. Also
check the rules.xml and filters.xml files, of course, and don't forget the
score file, which may or may not be in the .pan dir (see the prefs dialog
for current location, which defaults to elsewhere to be compatible with
other newsreaders that use it -- I moved mine to the  pan data dir, since
I don't regularly use anything else and I might as well keep it in the
same place).

I'd go about it by (with pan closed) renaming or deleting/changing info
from/in the above files one at a time until I figured out which one it
was, then go from there. However, it might be easier to trace the source
code, if it's not an obvious corruption in one of the files (perfectly
readable text suddenly turning to unreadable binary gibberish mid-file,
for instance).
