Just came across an unexpected effect with (old) Pan's 'mute Quotes'
facility.
Looking at a newsgroup posting that included the text of a Bash script,
with the 'Q' facility turned on to mute any quotes in the posting, I
noticed that any line in the text of the script that began with a "}"
character was regarded as a quote, and replaced by
"> [quoted text muted]"!
With 'Q' turned off, it was safe to copy the text of the script into a
file.
