I tried that, but Xfce 4.8 mandates that the panel be at the top of the screen, and I just don't like that... It was possible in v4.6 but they removed it.
A full-featured (i.e., the way GNOME 2 does it) panel with hierachial "Start" button (like Windows 95-XP?) on the bottom is what I'm comfortable with.
