well, i noticed this problem way back when i got
paragui working on the mac. i found that the problem was not always the same.
the font in the simple theme caused the squares to appear, but when i used the
unzipped version of the theme, things were fine. i haven't tried a zipped theme
on the mac recently, so i can't remember if it still happens.
just adding my 2 cents..
