I have been running PGW v0.9.16.005 and several other applications under 
PHP 4.4.0 without any problem whatsoever, since about two days after it's 
release (shameless plug for Gentoo's Portage update system here).

The caveat is that I use a relatively small number of PGW features under a 
low load.

It should also be noted that 4.4.0 fixes a big problem with references that 
had plagued me in the past. The update is in fact quite minor; the only 
reason why it wasn't released as 4.3.12 is that they had to change the API 
to implement the fix.
