I don't quite understand the problem description. I can see the
active cell; that's the one with a thick black border. But
what's the selected row or column?
If you open an existing .sav file which has (say) 10 variables, the
active cell defaults to the top left hand cell. Then if you place
the mouse cursor over (say) the seventh variable, and right click, a
popup menu will appear. Selecting "Insert Variable" from this popup
menu I would expect the new variable to appear at position 7. But
instead it appears at position 0.
The same problem happens when inserting cases too.
