I wouldn't have any fundamental objections.
However, you might want to consider the following, before deciding if
reimplementing the existing charts is the best use of your time:
1. I don't think that the current interface to the charts stuff is
particularly good.
2. I have some minor alterations to the interface in my private tree,
relating to the ROC command. I'll try to check those in very soon.
3. In the long term, a completely new chart system will be needed I think.
