General chatter about version numbers.
I wonder if, in the future, continuing to overload the version number
will be as helpful as, say, staying at an RC for a set duration before
promoting to release.
I vaguely remember there being an effort to get to "1.0" at some point
as well, since "same features as spss" is likely a moving goal.
