I'm not able to reproduce the above problem so we need some more information.
And one more different crash in openSUSE Leap 42.3 Linux: if I just start
PSPPIRE and go Edit > Insert variable:
I fixed the immediate problem here. A complete solution would be to grey out
the options in the Edit menu when it is not appropriate to call them, but I
haven't done that yet.
