Based on your original description of the problem, I thought the error was that libvirt was starting a PAPR machine instead of an e500 machine. So my take
is that libvirt needed to be rebuilt with the patches to support e500 machines (that I mentioned in my last email). If you are actually able to start e500 machines successfully with libvirt, then the problem must lie with how libguestfs interfaces to libvirt or something.
