Hello everyone,

The FSF recently learned about an existing free software tool that can extract RARv3 files, and we believe this fills the need highlighted by the entry in our High Priority Project list. You can read more about it at <http://www.fsf.org/blogs/licensing/free-rarv3-extraction>.

We're encouraging people to help make this software more useful on free systems -- for example, by packaging it for distributions, and integrating it into existing GUI archiving tools.

However, it's best to coordinate that work through the appropriate specific channels. This list was started to arrange work to write the actual extraction code. Since that part's done, we'll be shutting down the list. If you have questions about this change, please feel free to contact me.

Best regards,
