Details:
one way to reproduce:
$ screen -L
C-a :logfile /tmp/foo
$ ls -l /tmp/foo
ls: cannot access /tmp/foo: No such file or directory
another one:
$ screen -S sessionname -L
$ screen -S sessionname -X logfile "/tmp/foo"
Already logging windows log to old file.
