Milter dies with latest SA upgrade from CPAN

I don't know what's going on here, but for some reason SpamAssassin 
Milter is failing to filter spam with the latest version from CPAN - 
2.53.

Here's what happens.  I run the following command to test SA for 
functionality:

# spamassassin -t < sample-spam.txt > spam.out
# less spam.out
