Ok, "timeouts" on Linux are usually due to the milter exiting.  Linux
can't tell when there's nothing on the other end of a unix socket, so
it just hangs until it times out.  See if you have a corefile in the
directory you started the milter.

Unless you're using an rpm with security fixes, you might want to
upgrade to 8.12.11.  8.12.10 fixed a buffer overflow issue, and there
are some milter fixes in there as well (probably unrelated to your
problem though).
