Just to explain why: 

[Sat Aug 24 17:08:25 2024 : 976379] speechd:     Command sent to output module: 
|<speak>Test, test, test.<mark name="__spd_0"/> Test to the point it 
breaks.</speak>| (0)

so none of the server-side processing mangled it. There's the ssml mark
tag, but it's dropped early in the generic module.
