Thanks for the insight. I totally forgot about the notification discussion
before. The reason why I brought this up is because I don't know what to do
with bug #152753. There's a patch that fades the straw icon when there are no
items to read, and hides/unhides on left click. The patch looks alright
(eye-candy wise), but I agree that the notification applet should only be used
for notifications.
Personally, I agree with Juri. So if there are no strong opinions against the
default behaviour, then I might close the bug as 'WONTFIX'.
