Although my response is not swarm specific I think it should still help. There
is
a very clear description in the book Hidden Order : How Adaptation Builds
Complexity by John H. Holland, Heather Mimnaugh. I would suggest skiping all
the
front parts and go to the description of the ECHO model, if you're in a hurry.
He
speaks of layers, thier use in organizing a "muti-agent" and how to control
interactions. This seems to be the meat of the probelm you're having if I
understand your question.
