If an older version of synaptic happens to be in your repository, here's a
neat trick:
$ sudo apt-get build-dep synaptic
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
The following NEW packages will be installed:
gtk2-devel (2.4.13-2.1)
libglade2-devel (2.3.6-1)
scrollkeeper (0.3.14-2.1)
0 upgraded, 3 newly installed, 0 removed and 13 not upgraded.
Need to get 2565kB of archives.
After unpacking 14.6MB of additional disk space will be used.
