Does adding /usr/local/lib64 to your /etc/ld.so.conf file (and rerunning
/sbin/ldconfig) also correct the problem?

If your under gentoo...
./configure
make
make install
Then you must move
mv /usr/local/lib64/tkimg-1.3 /usr/lib64/
That should fix the problem.
