It doesn't hurt.  directory-sep-char is obsolete in Emacs 21.x,
indeed. But it must be set for XEmacs, that's why it is still used.

Anyway, you're right, such compiler warnings annoy. Therefore I've
tried to fix sloppy code whereever possible; see recent CVS sources.
