I tried 2.1 now and it doesn't complain about the proxies definition.
Yet, it is not working either with or without proxies definition. It
stalls waiting for an answer from the remote machine.

It works like a charm with another connection that doesn't need to hop.

So the ssh forwarding isn't working and I may be doing something wrong
in the definition of the proxies inside .emacs.

Reading the documentation I don't see any special option needed in the
ssh forwarding. Has anyone noticed any extra requirement?
