I anticipated that this change would cause problems for some people. You
were the first! I have now added a comment at the top of the bug report
buffer saying that this is using message-mode, not vm-mail-mode. Let us see
if it helps.
The fact that vm-pine asks quite the opposite question to Emacs is one of
the reasons I stopped using it. It drove me nuts! All vm-pine users have
to live with that inconsistency.
I think the draft is saved as a file in the 'drafts' directory. Not bad, I
think.
