That's the way I have it in ongoing patches

Looking at old (1999) email, I don't see any discussion of the 
app-defaults file.  It looks as if I had some app-defaults settings from 
an older discussion on the mailing list, and added the file at that point 
because I was tidying up xshell.sh, etc.

Though the app-defaults file has been there quite a while, it's not been 
essential.  But I added it to the install to get some consistency of 
appearance as well as to support uxvile.
