Comes from a time when PHP wasn't as widespread as today ;-).

Yes. At some point, linuxgames.com (or maybe someone higher up in the
food chain) turned off CGIs after abuse from other sites. Since then
stuff like the galleries or developer diary (blog, as you'd call it
these days) are broken, as nobody got around changing them.

Not really. As slow as development goes, it won't be changed very
often anyway ;-).
And maybe, for a future release, the website could be redesigned in a
cleaner way (or moved to a canned CMS).
