Hello all,

I'm trying to get the AC_PROG_CC_FOR_BUILD macro from the macro archive to work with version 2.57 of autoconf (version 1.7.2 of aclocal (from automake); version 1.7.2 of automake and version 1.4.1 of m4).

the original AC_PROG_CC_FOR_BUILD uses a number of pushdefs and popdefs to rename the variables used by these functions, so I've pretty much tried to do the same thing, and failed.

Apparently, the variables are not renamed within the macros invoked by the
AC_PROG_CC macro. It apparently works if the macro is invoked as any other, but not if it is "included" with a ``m4_expand_once'' directive.

Is there any known way to work around this (without patching autoconf itself)?
