| Subject: | Why can't macros be added to autoconf so aclocal **unnecessary**? |

I'm reading the New Riders Autotools book page 23 and it says aclocal needs to "collect" some macros that autoconf cannot handle all by itself. Why can't these macros simply be added to autoconf??? I'm still not clear why this is absolutely necessary by design. It makes the bootstrap a little more complicated and scares newbies. Chris
