If you are searching for a method for adjusting the pid controller once
or from time to time, Ziegler/Nichols is a good keyword for you:

If you are searching for a method which adjusts your parameters
continously, you are basically trying to build another control loop
around your controller. In this case, you're entering the area of
nonlinear control, which can be challenging but interesting...
