[avr-gcc-list] other IDE for AVR-GCC (SYN / Eclipse / ??)

Hello all,

I'am developing a education packet with an AVR microcontroller (ATMEGA8).
I'am looking for a userfriendly IDE (freeware) with can handle make-files (for 
AVR-GCC)
I have tried Eclipse (with cdt) and SYN. It seems pretty, but I don't know how 
to configure this software correctly.
Have anybody experience with this? are there other IDE software? 
I'have tried AVR-Edit but I have problems when I opened multiple C-files in one 
project.
