Hello Peter.

I recomment you to apply the patches located at WinAVR CVS page, they're available even for gcc 4.2.0. Be sure that you apply them in the correct order since if not can appear lines mismatch. These patches worked for me under Linux and Mac when I compiled GCC 
4.1.2.

I compiled and installed binutils successfully (I think).  GCC would not
compile because it said that my GCC compiler couldn't generate executable
code.  It was working fine before I tried this.
I performed a test compilation with the previous compiler on a program known
to compile successfully.  I had to add < string.h> which was not necessary
before.  The compile failed with the message:
/usr/local/bin/ld: unrecognized option '--hash-style=gnu'
I have never seen this before.

How do I fix it?
