Hi Steffen,

Yes, there are plans to get the XMEGA patches upstream in binutils and gcc. 
However, Atmel has to finish getting its FSF Copyright Assignment before they 
can even be submitted to those projects. Unfortunately, I cannot guarantee the 
timing of that, but it is in process.
